The “Concordia Journalists’ and Writers’ Association” was founded in Vienna in 1859. To this day it defends press freedom, cultivates civil discourse, and advocates for responsible journalism.
In 1863, Concordia organised a grand dance event. It was meant to reflect the growing importance of free journalism for society. The Concordia Ball was thus born, and it soon became the highlight of Vienna’s festival season. The Strauss family dedicated a number of compositions to Concordia, and waltz king Johann Strauss delighted the crowd by personally conducting the orchestra on many a legendary Concordia Ball night.
Today more than ever, the Concordia Press Club is committed to keeping journalism free and vibrant. And after a three-year break, we’re finally back to celebrating this tradition at Vienna’s most beautiful summer ball.
