Strong Condemnation of the Killing of Journalists in Southern Lebanon

World
 28 Mar 2026   IAPC

We unequivocally condemn the killing of three journalists in an Israeli airstrike on Saturday near the city of Jezzine in southern Lebanon. The victims – Al-Manar TV correspondent Ali Shuaib, Al-Mayadeen correspondent Fatima Ftouni, and their cameraman – were carrying out their professional duty to report the truth from the ground when their vehicle was targeted.

This incident bring the number to five journalists since the beginning of this month.

Journalists are civilians and must never be the target of military action. This incident represents a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the fundamental principles that protect freedom of the press in conflict zones. The deliberate or reckless targeting of media personnel undermines transparency, accountability, and the global public’s right to information.

We note with deep concern that the Israeli army has acknowledged the killing of one journalist, Ali Shuaib, while failing to address the deaths of the other two. This lack of full accountability raises serious questions and demands immediate clarification.

We call for:

  • An independent, transparent, and thorough investigation into this incident.
  • Full accountability for those responsible.
  • Immediate measures to ensure the protection of journalists operating in conflict zones.
  • Respect for international humanitarian law by all parties.

The targeting of journalists is not only an attack on individuals but an assault on truth itself. The international community must not remain silent in the face of such actions.
